UV Protection? Who Cares!
In March this year I underwent spinal surgery. Two months previous I started with a pain down my leg which my doctor told me was caused by a slipped disc pressing on the nerves in my spine. A slipped disc! I thought, isn’t that something old people get? but I’m only 34. I had heard the old saying ‘bend with your knees and not with your back’ but whilst growing up getting a bad back was something that seemed a lifetime away. Well, not taking care of my back through my younger years had caught up with me and has made me realise I’m not invincible after all and inevitably parts of my body will start to break down if I don’t take steps to protect them now.
I know in the main our customers think in the exact same way I did. We get endless questions about “which colours do you have in stock?” and “do you stock this particular designer?”. But I can’t recall many ever asking “what level of UV protection do your sunglasses offer?” or “do those sunglasses offer UVA or UVB protection?”. It seems that the issue of protecting your eyes is just an after thought when purchasing sunglasses.
